Abstract:   (2023 Views)
Afaqis were a group of foreign forces, especially Iranian and Persian-speaking Shiite forces in South India (Deccan). These immigrant forces - as the most powerful group against the native forces of Deccan - had an influential political and social position, especially during the period of Adel Shahian rule (895- 1097 AH / 1489 -1686 AD). The present article, with a descriptive-analytical approach and using library sources, seeks to answer the question that "What were the impacts of the confrontation between the Afaqi groups and the Deccani groups on the political and social situation of the regions under the rule of the Adel Shahian government?" Also, “What were the reasons for the support of Adel Shahi rulers to Afaqian?” The results indicate that during the Adel Shahi period, there was a conflict over power between the Shia Afaqians and the Deccanis, especially during the time of the Sunni rulers of the Adel Shahian. During the reign of the Shia rulers, the Deccani people refrained from a serious conflict with the Afaqians, who were the focus of these rulers; But with the beginning of the reign of Sunni rulers, the Deccans have increased the pressure on Afaqians by attracting the rulers’ opinions in such a way that Afaqians sometimes could not resist the Deccani groups and chose to migrate to the courts of other Deccan Shia governments.
Keywords: Afaqians, Deccans, Shia Iranians, Political and Social Organization, Stabilization of Shia Rule, Adel Shahians.
