Abstract:   (4587 Views)

Tabriz was considered as a very important city during the Ilkhanid for economic, political, and religious reasons.[1] Paying attention to the art led to the presence of the mystics, poets, saints and rulers across the city, and that could be a reason for the development and importance of the tombs in the late Safavid era. The aim of this paper was to examine the growing trend in the number of the tombs from the early Islamic centuries until the late Safavid era. In this study, data was collected using historical documents with a descriptive and phenomenological perspective. Data was analyzed implementing comparative analysis. The results showed that the number of the mystics was more than that of the other famous people in the city and in all the eras. This had a significant impact on the structure and organization of the physical spaces in the city throughout the historical periods.

In contemporary books such as Ancient Monuments of Azerbaijan written by Abdol Ali Karang which introduces monuments and historical buildings as well as some places reference is explicitly made to these people. Moreover, in the historical books introducing tombs, titles such as Poet, Baba (for the Gnostics), Minister, Amir and Ulia Allah (Friends of God) are given next to the people’ names.
