Abstract:   (1305 Views)
Ibn Khaldun is the most famous Maghreb historian who created the most important historical work of the Islamic Maghreb in the 8th century (AH) by writing Al-Ibar. After examining Al-Ibar, this research answers the question that, “To what extent Ibn Khaldun's thoughts in Mugaddimah influenced Al-Ibar?” and “What were the differences between Al-Ibar and the general chronicles of the Maghrib in the 8th century?” The findings show that, despite taking a critical approach to history in Mugaddimah, Ibn Khaldun did not apply the ideas presented in it in Al-Ibar and simply referred the reader to Mugaddimah. In fact, the author of Al-Ibar did not intend to present a historical analysis and wrote Mugaddimah as a tool for readers to criticize Al-Ibar and the historical events; This does not mean reducing the value of Al-Ibar. It is distinguished from the general history of the Maghreb of the 8th century in terms of criticism and evaluation of its sources, critical analysis of narrations, adoption of genealogical method and disregarding the conventional method of chronology, use of coin inscriptions, inscriptions, documents, correspondence and observations of contemporaries and attention to linguistics.
Keywords: Ibn Khaldun, Al-Ibar, Mugaddimah, General Chronicles, Maghrib, 8th century (AH).
