Some orientalists, with a realistic analysis of Islamic civilization, seek to highlight the most important element of civilization, namely religion. Hodgson, as the founder of Islamic Studies at the University of Chicago, is one of the few orientalists who has a realistic view of Islamic civilization. In Hodgson's thought, Islamic civilization has been the most important civilization in history in which religion has played a central role, so the idea of the intertwining of religion and culture forms the foundation of Hodgson's civilizational thought. Hodgson has a unique methodology in historical studies that is based on the relationship between the spiritual and material elements of humanity. In this method, religion as a civilizational element needs to be objectified at the social level. Therefore, Hodgson considers the process of civilizationalization of religion as the path of transforming religion into culture. And it seeks to portray what it sees as the distinction between religion as a divine command and culture as a human heritage. This article uses the analytical method.
